Hey Mark,

It's hard to tell exactly what's going on without looking at IIS myself, but if it works - it works! I think if you're happy with the URL that you're using and you can access the site - problem solved!

Take care,

Ian

Hi,

I'm trying to follow this, but in the "logical steps" post, you start with DNS.  So, isn't the first step getting the "host" aliased in DNS?  If I have a site that is accessible via mysite.mydom.com and I create a new parent site with alias "othersite.mydom.com", then if there is no dns entry that points othersite.mydom.com to the IP address of mysite.mydom.com, then I'm SOL and no matter what I do in IIS's configuration, if the packets aren't sent to that box, there's no chance for IIS to examine any host headers.  Right?

I'd love to be mistaken, because getting a new DNS entry is going to take days, but I just, logically, don't see how it could be otherwise.

Thanks,

Chris

Hey Chris,

Yep - if you have a domain name (or subdomain) but it doesn't point to your server, no amount of configuration on your server will get your site to work!

I only really have experience with GoDaddy, but it doesn't seem to take too long for them to get DNS all figured out.

Good luck,

Ian
