Anonymous posting might be a fairly standard feature of forums but I've never actually seen it anywhere.  Just out of my own curiosity could you post a link to a public forum that allows posting anonymously?  I think every true forum I've ever visited required the poster to be registered.

The work around is of little value as a user could login and change the password.

Anon posting is a fairly standard feature in forums.  Some may not agree with its use but it is a feature some clients want.  If DNN projects are run by personal views of the managers only then this is not a good sign.  It should hopefully be run based on user feedback and requests of the community.

If the feature is not added then users will just look elsewhere for a solution.

I tried to be constructive by providing a workaround to an unsupported feature. Your judgement of project management is blatantly ignorant of whether or not community feedback is used. And THAT is not a good sign.

Users have always been free to go elsewhere.

s2k,

This module is built upon community feedback. While you are probably lets say the fifth person I have seen request this, that hardly represents the majority considering there are well over 100k downloads of this module alone. This module is controlled via the 80/20 use case rule and I honestly don't see this request meeting anywhere near even the 20% of use cases (and the idea behind the rule is going for the 80% use cases). Considering the amount of effort required to change the module, I really don't see it as something we should spend time on. This is just my honest and fair judgement. As with anything else, you can definately do this since source is available to you. As Paul mentioned, I really don't know of any public forums where this is done which only stengthens my position on this. While I am sure every single project is influenced by those who manage it, I can assure you that the focus has and always will be on the majority of use cases of our community.

And the issue I have is how the reply was made, it came across as being a personal view that the feature was stupid and thus it was not needed. "I personally object the addition of this "feature""

Sorry to have raised any ill will, it jsut came off poorly to me in how it sounded.

If the majority don't want it then don't add it that is fine, as I said those that need it can go elsewhere.  I as well don't like anon posting personally but I answer to my clients needs not only my personal views.

S2K, could you perhaps elaborate on the use case your client has for anonymous forums? To me it seems rather pointless to have anonymous forums.. it would become more like something of a blog, or guestbook even....

cheers,

Erik
