I'm still very new to dnn - 4.09 - and we are rolling out an installation that should use our current datastore as the user base for dnn.  I have seen in books/online/etc that I will need to re-implement the AspNetMembershipProvider (although Wrox Professional DotNetNuke 4 points me to a file that doesn't exist in my installation).

My question is... can anyone outline what all I will need to do to make our dnn installation use our current datastore?  We would ultimately like to have our current datastore control access/roles/etc in the dnn installation.  I've seen a lot of issues of synchronization and dupliated data that I would like to avoid.  Also, is there still a Role and Profile Provider that will have to be rewritten as well or has all that been rolled into the Membership provider?

Also, once this is hooked up to my datastore, will I be able to expose additional information from our datastore to the modules that are still to be written?  In other words, can I extend the data that a user can update, as well as expose additional data about each user from our current datastore?

Any/all advice is GREATLY appreciated.

Bob

Here is a blog Henry Kenuam did about creating a custom Membership Provider, http://www.engagesoftware.com/Blog/EntryID/41.aspx. This should get you started.
