We are doing the old buy, build or both approach and I ran into dotnetnuke. It seems really cool and there are a lot of things I already like about it. I love the fact that I dont have to build everything and can rapidly deploy. Only thing is we build and maintain sites for clients and our current CMS allows us to manage the over 500 active sites in our portfolio.

So obviously I had a few questions:

Is DotNetNuke capable of managing, say 2000 or more sites?

Is there a administrative module used for clients and heirarchy?

Has anyone used this to manage sites built with other tools?

I appreciate any help anyone can provide. If there is somewhere else I should go for this type of info, please do point me there

Thanks!

I know of many people that have a large number of sites, I actually support one client that has over 1000 portals on a single DotNetNuke installation.  So yes, it can be done, there are considerations to be made when doing it, bit it can be done.

I strongly recommend poking around here a bit and looking at some of the comments, and otherwise, talk with some of us that are familar with large scale implementations.  Since forum notifications are broken here, if you want to talk with me about it, drop me an e-mail at msellers@iowacomputergurus.com as I don't always get a chance to check back here.
