I just found out (or rather my customer found out) that right-clicking on a DNN menu item does not show the "open in a new tab" and "open in a new window" options, which means that menu items are not recognized as links by the browser.

This is a very serious problem for me because my customer won't accept the site until I fix this.

I'm using DNNMenuNavigationProvider on 4.8.4. This happens in SolpartMenu as well. If I switch to ASP2MenuNavigationProvider I do get these options, but I can't find any documentation on this provider and I can't make it look right - the CSS definitions used in DNNMenu do not apply and also the spacing is all wrong.

Any help will be appreciated, I'm desparate here, I may have not just to throw away tons of work - I may end up having to pay compensation to my customer.

Check out House of Nuke.  They have a skinobject menu that will probably work for you and allows for right clicking.   I don't know how well documented it is, but at least you have a name behind it.  I have used their menus a lot over the years and find them rock solid.
