Can Dotnetnuke be used as an e-learning/distance education portal ??

If so then what would be the required modules/funcionalities that make dotnetnuke as a contender for the same ?

The only e-learning solution I've seen mentioned for DNN can be found at http://lmsdemo.brisingergroup.com/.

You can see the announcement in these forums here http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/112/threadid/263261/scope/posts/Default.aspx

I haven't used it - nor really know anything about it other than its existence. Just mentioning it for you. :)
There might be more; snowcovered.com would be a good place to look.

Over all it will depend on your exact needs what solution will be best for you.

Have you tried using Moodle?  Since starting with Moodle a month ago, we've almost entirely gotten rid of DotNetNuke all together, except for the odd site that requires some legacy apps to run.  Moodle has been designed specifically for e-learning, and is well written and easy to configue and customize, so much so that we are using Moodle for non e-learning sites as well.  If you haven't tried it yet, I suggest you gooogle it and give it a go.

The basic question is: what are your requirements?
