Hi All,

I have not built my site yet but in terms of amount/type of content it would be similar to the Aus Krispy Kreme site. I would like to know what sort of traffic my server could handle before it suffers in performance. A conservative figure would be appreciated.

Details of my server is:

OS Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
CPU 2 x 2.8GHz
RAM 2048 MB
HDD 100GB
IIS v6.0
.NET 2.0.50727

Thanks,

Jon

DNN hardware requirements depends on the modules you install and the number of pages and its complexity. Are you going to place the Database on the same server or a separate machine? In the first case, you might consider to add more RAM.

Hi Sebastian,

As I am still designing the page, I do not know the exact modules that will be installed. The number of pages would be around 50.

The database and server are on the same machine. I would like to see if DotNetNuke is suitable for my website given my hardware constraints.

If possible, I am looking for an answer similar to "Given your hardware setup and the type of site (similar to the aus krispy kreme site) you could handle 1000 unique visitors per hour without any trouble."

Thanks,

Jon

like sebastian says, that's hard to say without exact knowlegde of used modules

one thing though: in general it it not advisable to put your sql server on the same machine as your website, as that will impact performance on the machine. You should consider installing sql server on a different machine if you want to achieve best performance

also: make sure you are not running sql server express as that will impact performance as well due to memory constraints in sql server

also.. 1000 unique visitors does not say much if you don't know what those visitors will be doing on your site: are they anonymous users, or logged on users? do they view 1 page, or multiple pages? are the pages they view static (text/html) and cached, or are the pages they view complex

As you can see.. too many unknowns, so no way to answer your question

although I agree with all the statements, Erik did, your configuration should be able to serve the number of visitors with ordinary use (you are not trying to copy youtube for them, do you?)
