Removing the dll worked for me, but like others this only works if you don't need that dll :(

I have things working just fine on an xp machine, but get this error on Server 2003.  I've uninstalled/reinstalled many times and to no avail.  So this appears to only be a problem on the Server 2003 box.  Any other ideas?

Well, I uninstalled/reinstalled, same version, same everything, and it worked this time.  Kind of scary that it worked the second time around, but I'm not complaining :)

Simply press enter in your web.config and save. Reload page, redirect loop problem will go away.

I was wandering if this would help anyone...

After removing System.Web.Exensions.dll from your bin folder you have to install AJAX Extensions 1.0 or Dot.Net 3.5.

I just ran into this as well.  Upgraded from 4.07 to 4.09.02.  I got the infinite redirect on the homepage and then found that blog reference.  Installed ASP.Net 3.5 and reset web.config for the correct extension version.  The site started working again, but then I could not access any settings or parts of the admin menu or host menu.  It seems like anytime there was a querystring in the url (www.mysite.com/somepage/default.aspx?tabid=123) then it would fail.

Removing the System.Web.Extensions.dll resolve those issues.

But...now what?  Is it OK to just leave this dll out?
