I have been happy with ifinity's URL Rewriter on a couple of sites and Bruce is very service oriented for his customers. I also agree that it is good to have people contributing to the community.

One thing to note is that SEO is only partially realized with URL's and on-page content like a correct Title Tag and H1. The majority of SEO is however accomplished using Off page techniques...mainly link building.

I can say that I drove a DNN site from a PR0 to PR6 in a few months a couple of year ago solely using Off page techniques. I did not do anything to the URLs and in fact did not even have keywords or H1 tags or descriptions on my DNN pages. I realize that Google PR is not everything; especially now. But I think most will agree that SEO is more about off page than on page factors. But don't get me wrong. You need to have a good title, description and h1 tags. Also, don't forget that there are limits to the Title and Description length that Google will display on a SERP, so work within those constraints.

After seeing the back and forth on this thread, I've decided I am going to release this code.  It will take a little time to separate it from the proprietary setup we have on our e-commerce site, but I think it will be worth it.  To answer some questions, yes this code will be released as open source and I would be happy to allow it to be freely incorporated into the core as I've certainly benefited from using DotNetNuke.  As far as link building, it's true that you can't SEO a site just by touching up your HTML and META data; however, part of this setup allows for automatic linking within you site.  As far as external, inbound links - you'll have to work for those as much as the next guy. ;)  But if you have any suggestions on making my model better, I'm all ears since I have the mandate to improve this however possible.

After I get everything set, I'll setup a source forge download and post a link to this forum.

I've got the code for this ready to go.  However, because we only do DNN programming for in-house solutions, there's no reason for us to package modules so I have no experience with that.  I was wondering if I provided the source and binaries if somebody out there could package the solution so that others can install it?  If you have experience with DNN packages and don't mind helping me out, reply and I can setup a download for you.  Otherwise, I'll have this ready sooner or later, but at least the code is ready. :-P

Hi Bryan,

You can upload your code also as source and if somebody finds it useful he/ she can tell about it and maybe somebody will create an install package for it. An install package can be created with "create package' in module definitions..but in release dnn 5.0 it might be a bit different.

We also run a custom-made e-commerce platform and also are investing currently a lot in seo. We have the problem of most European users: multi-lingual sites with 3rd party modules not supporting friendly url and/or sitemaps.

J.
