 Hi,

I am trying to finish up a custom data provider for dnn and the way that i install and upgrade is significantly different from how the core currently does it. In following the model that is pervasive in dnn, would it be possible for the core team to create an abstract provider for installation and allow developers to define the concrete provider that they want to use in the web.config?

The current model isnt extensible and would require me to make extensive changes to the core code base each time the software is versioned.

All feedback is welcomed!

Martin,

please note, that the installation and package management has been completely overhauled in upcoming DNN 5, based on the auth provider installation in DNN 4.9.0. There will be a single installation concept for all extensions, modules, skin objects, providers, skins, containers and language packs, and this shall be extensible by modules in the future as well. For details please check out the Blog of Charles Nurse.

 Hi Sebastion,

I am actually talking about the installation of DotNetNuke, not modules.
