I'm new to DNN (have setup up a few test sites so I'm not clueless, but I still have much to learn).  Our current site/URL is a WordPress blog, I want to setup a DNN site and realize this means I need to move to Windows hosting (on which the WP blog won't work).  I need to know the best way to setup my new DNN install based on the following:

We will purchase hosting through a third party and host our DNN site there
We currently have a site running a WordPress blog that needs to stay active until we move over to the new DNN site
We need a test environment to setup the blog completely (test, design, etc.)

Is there a way to keep the current site as is (Linus/WordPress), setup the new DNN site in a test environment, and then have the test environment "replace" the current site when ready to go live?  Once live we will discontinue the Linux hosted account with the WordPress blog, but setup of the new site will take at least a couple weeks and needs to stay live until then.

Thanks for any insight you can provide!

sounds to me like a pretty simple task.  Do you want your test environment on your hosting provider or on your laptop?

If you want it on your hosting provider that will be the easist.  Just grab an extra domain name, or use one that you may have laying about unused....set up your hosting provider, and start building out your site on that URL till you love it....then when it's done, go into your portal settings(under the host menu), add an alias for the real URL, tweak all the text and stuff to make sure that it reflects your go live url, then just point the DNS...viola

I'd suggest you follow the tutorial laid out here by micheal washington that will give you a farily simple system to you as a test environment... I suggest you enven just ignore the visual studio portions of the tutorial all together.

Hope that helps

Your WP blog can also work in Windows hosting environment. Select a Windows Web host that supports both PHP and ASP.NET. In fact, I have found that WP + DNN is a very good popular combination that is used by many customers of ours as well.

Thanks,
