Hi,

we want to use a DNN installation as a basis for offering websites to our customers. In Professional DNN Portals there is mentioning of the DB abstraction layer which should make it possible to run DNN with MySQL. I like MySQL a lot, but i have skimmed the fora and i don't get the impresison that meny people actually did this.

What i would like discuss is wether DNN 4 with MySQL is a sensible solution.

What issues can one expect. I am new to DNN so i might overlook aspects.

I am thinking of questions like:

Db setup/installation (With SQL Server DNN auto installs the DB structure and data. Is there a SQL-script for a DNN MySQL database?)

Performance

Third party modules

Date related functions

Stored Procedures

etc, etc....

Any idea's?

I'll take a stab at it.  First of all, to the best of my knowledge there is no MySQL data provider yet.  I think someone is working on one.  Search these forums and the old ones at forums.asp.net.  One problem that I can see is that while SQL is a standardized language, most of the major RDBMS systems, SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, Postgres, etc., all have their own enhancements such that none of them is 100% compliant with the ANSI standard.
