Hi All!

I've just set up a new portal of DNN version 4.9.0.
When I try to retrieve my password (through Log in --> Forgot Password), an e-mail is sent to my address as expected.
The problem is that the password doesn't show - it only displays a bunch of asterisks ("*****").

Why is that, and what can I do to fix it??

I tried searching the forums, but could not find any information regarding this...

for security reasons host passwords are never revealed.

you can follow the following the procedure to reset the host password (you must have db access for that though):

  • create a new user account (register as user) and remember the password this time ;)
  • go th the db, open the aspnet_membership table, find the user by way of the email address you entered, and copy the values in the Password and PasswordSalt fields to the host user's record. Make sure the changes are persisted in the db
  • you can now log on to your site with the host account using the password of the user you created
