I have never used DNN but I have a brother that wants me to build him a website based on what he wants I think this might be a great option for him and just want to verify with people here that know this software better. 

  1. I need an app that will allow me to create as many pages as I need within a normal navigation and also drop down menus.
  2. I need to fully customize it to fit the design of mine. Which means I need to be able to change around the look of everything pretty much it won't look like a portal at all.
  3. I need to have Forums/Blogs integrated.
  4. I need to have a page where I can insert videos and news updates.

Thanks for your suggestions the customization is a big deal and I am a programmer so I have knowledge just want to know about the ease of doing what I need to do? I am debating just custom writing something instead of a CMS.

Hi,

 

DotNetNuke is a great place for you to start in, It's powerful CMS will cover most of your needs. For the design you could either create a custom template or go ahead and purchase one on snowcovered.com.

Since you are a programmer one of the great things that you will find is that you can also add your own custom modules and add any extra functionality that is needed.

Great any suggestions on where to start. I have to integrate my own design and have a forum/blog system also a page to upload videos?

Start by downloading the install version and installing it.  Look at the default blog and forum, plus the repository module.  Learn to skin.

Yes,

Download and install the latest version of DNN on your machine, it's very easy to do, just follow the wizard. Then go ahead and look up DNN Quick Starts on google and you'll find tons of stuff.
