What elements can be defined in the fckstyles.xml or custom xml file to be displayed in the Styles dropdown list in the editor? eg, does it handle ul, li, td? I am using DNN 4.8.4 installation.

you can specify styles for any tag, for details please check out www.fckeditor.net, since this is a feature of the 3rd party editor used by DNN.

Maybe it is something to do with the implementation of the provider in DNN then, since I can't get these styles (for lists or tables) to work in the Styles dropdown list. Do you have an example of the fckstyles.xml and css for applying a custom bullet list style for example? If the style is applied in the source, then it will indicate this in the Style box, even though it doesn't appear in the dopdown list. I haven't been able to apply to a new list except using the html source.

enter "ehanced Editor configuration" link beneath the editor frame and check the styles configuration. use custom to select your file. apply on portal level or whatever appropriate.

I was using the 'URL' option to specifiy a custom fckstyles.xml file, applied to the Portal.

See also this thread, for corroboration of the issue:-
