Hi All,

I want a module that could handle the below functionalities.

Creating/Opening a word document and do versioning for that.

The key functionality i want is that I need one common tool which can handle both document editing & versioning.

Can we do like this.

Kindly give your valuable ideas.

Regards

Samuel

The biggest issue you will have is that opening a word doc/creating a word doc requires using the Visual Studio Tools for Office-- and that is all COM Interop.  It is very heavy, and very web-server incompatible.  In fact, Microsoft *still* recommends not doing this.  VSTO loves to spike the processor.

There is also a question about using the VSTO assemblies on a server in terms of licensing. It is a muddy area.  I once worked on a WinForms project where we were doing it in a SmartClient, and our lawyers felt that to be on the safe side, each installation of the SmartClient needed to have a matching legal installation of Office.  Since Office doesn't have "server licensing", it is a tenuous area.

Of course, LiveOffice will be releasing soon, so Microsoft must be meeting this challenge somehow... it would be interesting to see how they do it.
