I am currently using AVCalendar 3.1.0 on DNN 3.2.2 and an preparing to upgrade both my DNN version and my Calendar to the Events module.  I am hoping to finish with the latest version of each (DNN 4.9.0)  I have been holding off because of several failed attempts at upgrades in the past, mostly centering on the AVCalendar module and losing all the data in it.

Does anyone have a working series of steps that would enable me to get to my desired installation?  I am thinking that I need to do the following at a high level:

  1. Upgrade AVCalendar to the latest version
  2. Upgrade DNN to 3.3.7
  3. Upgrade AVCalendar to the latest Events module that runs on DNN 3.x
  4. Upgrade DNN to 4.x

Is this right?  Does someone have a documented method to upgrade?

Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave,

I don't have all steps, but note that you the latest version of the Events Module that allows for AVCalendar upgrade is version 3.3.8. I haven't worked actually used that process, so can't remember whether it is an upgrade or an import (I'm sure other can comment), but I know the dunctionality was removed in 4.0.1. So I would suggest you need to:-

  1. Upgrade AVCalendar to the latest version
  2. Upgrade DNN to a version that supports Events 3.3.8
  3. Install Events 3.3.8 then upgrade/import as appropriate
  4. Upgrade DNN to 4.9.0
  5. Upgrade Events to 4.0.2

Cheers
Roger

Roger,

Thanks for the reply.

I tried doing the first step, and I upgraded to Calendar module 3.2.0 and I got no errors on the installation.

The problem now is that the calendar is asking to be configured.  When I do, the calendar is missing all of the data.  I can see the data in the Calendar table within the database, but it does not show up in the calendar module.

I am hoping that if I can get the data to show up, the rest of the installation will be smooth.  Now to figure out how to get the data showing...

Hi Dave,

Sorry I can be of little help here. I have used older version of AVCalendar which I enhanced to support UK localisation, but never went through the DNN upgrade processes. The couple of times I created a new version I took a copy of the data, installed the module as new, then copied the data straight into SQL Server fronted-ended by MS Access. I guess that is the techie in me.

Hopefully someone on the forum can help you through the AVCalendar upgrade process.

Cheers
Roger

Thanks again Roger.

I've noticed something strange, some of the calendars/lists are showing up with data and some do not.  All of my categories and locations are there.  I'm going to try a few more things and see what the differences may be.  I did a comparision between the old and new databases and there are a number of changes.

I did find this posting - http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/20/threadid/6691/scope/posts/Default.aspx, and that is making look at a few things.  It's still weird that some calendars are working and not others.
