After we uninstalled our DNNMasters.MPUS-Xtreme 1.0.41 module from our website (*note - We had also unassociated all associated portals from the module interface on the website and made sure that the "Delete files" box was checked beside the uninstall link.  Additionally we confirmed that all modified entries within the web.config file were set back to the DNN core providers) we started experiencing an issue when trying to register a new user to our DNN website version 4.9.00.

The issue occurs when we now attempt to add (register) a new user to the site.  After entering in the user's information on the registration screen, when you click the "Add New User" link - we receive an error on the screen which reads: "An Unexpected Error Occurred During Registration. Please Contact The Portal Administrator For Futher Information."  (*Extra side note for DNN corrections in next version - The word "Futher" is misspelled.  Should be "Further")

When we look in the database, we can see that the user has been created in the following tables: dbo.aspnet_Membership, dbo.aspnet_Users and dbo.Users.  However, we do not see the user (userid) in the dbo.UserPortals table.  This of course does not allow the user to be display in the list of users in the DNN portal.  If we manually create a record in the dbo.UserPortals table, the user will show up in the displayed list, but of course the normal registration process that would have assigned him his default roles have also not been created.

Is there any advice you can offer us regarding this issue that might help us look in a certain area of stored procedures or functions, etc. to try and correct the problem back to the proper way the DNN core processes should work?  Our site is a kind of virtual paper weight if we can't add any users. :-(

Thanks for your time and assistance.

I would talk to DNNMaster's to confirm you have uninstalled the module correctly.

Thanks for the reply, Stuart.

We do have the question posed to DNN Masters for suggestions in aiding our troubleshooting, however since all (or at least apparently all) instances of the DNN Masters MPUS_X module has been uninstalled, we were just wondering what the order of execution for DNN is regarding the registration of a new user.  This might help give us a road map to find out what, where and why the registartion process is failing.

Thanks

Ok.  This problem has been resolved.  The issue was this: These two tables "dbo.UserPortals" and "dbo.UserRoles" were missing certain key table properties, contraints and indexes and foriegn key information.  We did a compare on table properties of our broken DNN database to a working one and found the descrepancies, made the changes, and then verified (and cleaned up) any orphan data that existed.

When we first attempted our uninstall of the MPUS_X module, it failed halfway down the process.  I guess these table properties were affected and didn't get reset back to the default way of doing things.

I guess though this does present a question to the DNN Core Developers regarding this portion of my original email -

"When we look in the database, we can see that the user has been created in the following tables: dbo.aspnet_Membership, dbo.aspnet_Users and dbo.Users.  However, we do not see the user (userid) in the dbo.UserPortals table.  This of course does not allow the user to be display in the list of users in the DNN portal.  If we manually create a record in the dbo.UserPortals table, the user will show up in the displayed list, but of course the normal registration process that would have assigned him his default roles have also not been created."

Should not the entire "registration" process (meaning the creation of all the records in all the tables - Users, Roles, Portals, etc.) be wrapped in some kind of method that would prevent the creation of data in some tables, while failing to do so in others, especially when the registration process fails and returns the messgae "An Unexpected Error Occurred During Registration. Please Contact The Portal Administrator For Futher Information."

Thanks for you time.

You might have a point. However, i am also a bit disturbed that the module you tried and uninstalled messed up your installation. You might want to contact the developer of that module with your information so they can fix the uninstall procedure of that module.

It should be noted that any module developer can kill a DNN installation quite easily, so you should always test out modules in a save environment, and not on your live site
