The easiest way is to view the source of a page on your site (right click, View Source/View Page Source), and look to see if the first line looks like this:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
or like this:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
The first is not XHTML, the second is.

ok, if the skin is NOT XHTML compliant, then ????

you must make the skin XHTML and there not existing any other way.  :) Right now our module have removed the popup extender because of the same issue.
