cathal,

Thanks for replying and thanks for taking the time to try to debug this problem.

Unfortunately, I'm not using Blowery Compression.

Here is a recent, bare-bone DNN 4.0.2 installation:

http://site343.mysite4now.com/curt/dnn/test (hosted on WebHost4Life)

username:  test
password:  test

This DNN site has no Blowery Compression and it has the same problem.

I'm glad you were able to determine that the dotnetnuke cookie is lost after a request for webresource.axd.  However, I'm not knowledgeable enough to know why the cookie is making the request and what webresource.axd is for.  How do we stop the cookie from being lost?

I understand that 4.0.3 is available.  Does this version solve the problem?

I still can't recreate this. I've checked the new site you provided and it's losing the cookie at the same point. webresource.axd is a special page mapping Microsoft use to load the javascript it uses for validators. I've tried a few times, and it's happening each time, though it's only supposed to run once and after that the javascript is cached in the user's browser. I did a check for webresource.axd problems , and found a few common classes of issue:

  1. sites that utilise compression- if you're not using blowery/iis compression or another compression tool such as port80, this is unlikely to be your issue
  2. Can you check and make sure you have debug set to false in your web.config as that can cause webresource.axd to be ran upon each page refresh to ensure debugging works correctly.
  3. i saw this suggestion for removing the call to dynamic webresource.axd , you could try that http://www.inventua.com/blogs.content?EntryID=5

I don't think 4.03 will solve this, as I don't know if anyone has isolated what the problem is. 4.03 also only has a few small fixes for known issues with cache and banners.

Are you making any changes to the default install, in particular are you altering the web.config to use other providers,or altering other parts of (except for connectionstrings obviously).

Cathal,

You said "I still can't recreate it".  What are you trying to recreate?

Yes, the debug is set to false.  This is the default setting and I have not changed it.

I read http://www.inventua.com/blogs.content?EntryID=5 .  Some of it is over my head.  Which folder is webresource.axd suppose to reside?  I downloaded the webresource.axd from that link and put it into the root folder of my DNN site.  That did not fix the problem.

No, I haven't made any changes to the default install.  In fact, the hoster installed http://aspdotnetnukehost.com and I don't have an account with this hoster so I don't have access to the files. From this DNN site, I created a child portal: http://aspdotnetnukehost.com/test , with nothing added, and it still has the log-out bug.

I have an account with WebHost4Life and used their auto-installer to install Http://site343.mysite4now.com/curt/dnn and then created a test child portal Http://site343.mysite4now.com/curt/dnn/test , which also has the log-out bug. However, I did not change the default install. These are bare-bone, default, template DNN sites. I checked the web.config file for this install and the debug is set to false.

Because these bugs appear with default installs of DNN, I'm surprised that others have not posted about this bug on forums.

I'm not sure how much help this is, but we have the exact same issue on a portal on my server.

4.0.2 default install, Win2k AS.

This only happens with child portals with administrator rights; host/superuser accounts have no problem at all.

I had same problem and fixed following the instructions for the code change to the core displayed here.

http://forums.asp.net/1115029/ShowPost.aspx

This was my first core change and I really don't feel comfortable posting my compiled dll.

Maybe someone from the core can do that?

Also my installation was originally created from a webhost. I didn't set it up and I think they used the starter kit. Maybe the code in the compiled dll distributed with the starter kit was off. I don't know but it's something to look at.
