You get a two for one with this.  Add a favicon.ico file to your site and it will show up in your URL bar and will also show up on the shortcut that the user may create for your site.  I always put mine in the portal root (ie. \portals\0) so that you can have one for each site.  I believe you can also put it in the www root but I have never tried that location.

putting it in the portal root is the preferred way for DNN. THat way admins can manage the favicon themselves, without having to use ftp to get to the wwwroot. Also, puting it just in the wwwroot would make the icon display for all portals (in fact, thats how the dnn icon shows up, it is overruled by the icon that is put in the portal root)

I've blogged on how to do this:

http://www.ifinity.com.au/Blog/Technical_Blog/EntryId/53/Setting-the-Favourite-Icon-in-a-DotNetNuke-Portal/

You can follow the instructions shown there.  It covers generating the .ico file in the first place, and geting it loaded onto your site.

 OK Thanks,

I think I've got the general idea. I tried it through using www.favicon.cc is this a good reliable favicon generator

My icon appears in the URL bar but is pretty fuzzy looking, I may need to work on some settings. I have also tried to delete it so that I can upload another image. but I get a message that says

Error Deleting File: Portal Root\\favicon.ico
The process cannot access the file \'Portal Root\\favicon.ico\' because it is being used by another process.
