Greets,

I signed up with with EasyCGI because they claimed to be DNN experts. When I signed up they offered to do all the installation work so I could focus on skinning, building sites, etc. I don't have a clue on synching up with databases, etc. EasyCGI was bought out or merged and since then my client's DNN site with them has been repeatedly down, especially the blog module. This has been going on for 28 days now!!!

The site was finally online long enough tonight for me to snag an error. Can you tell me what this means so I can tell EasyCGI? I've tried reinstalling the blog module through their new wizard, which never let me complete the installation process! I've tried talking to a manager. They repeatedly come up with one day fixes that then blow up.

Thanks for any leads! It looks like a database error to me which would be out of my control.

Hi SitesDesign,

I faced this issue on some of my local installations, months ago, but I can hardly remember how did I fix it. The issue is in the database, or in the way that your application is trying to connect to it: every module trying to retrieve data will trigger the error, in this case the blog module. So let's figure out a list of things that are in your range:

  1. Check the connection strings (I know you did, but check also the one for legacy modules).
  2. Send the error message to your hosting provider, suggesting them to visit this link http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;914277.

I hope that this may help.

Hi StiesDesign,

the connection strings are settings that are located inside the web.config file on your installation root. If you are not confident with connection strings you'd better not try to alter them, but you can ask your your host provider to check if those strings match your database settings.
