Has anyone developed a module which when someone wants to reset (has forgotten) thier password they can request it to be reset in something like the following way.

  1. User requests a password reset.
  2. Module generates a GUID and puts it into a DB table with a date stamp
  3. Module sends GUID in a link to the registered email address
  4. When user it clicks on link it THEN initiates a password reset.
  5. If the link is not clicked on in X time GUID is deleted from DB. 

With the module handling everything out of core DNN.

I can't believe this is going nowhere. I put this issue as a bug in the DNN support site. http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=8912&PROJID=2 months ago. The way DNN works today is a major security flaw and I have rarely seen a website that will email a cleartext password to a user instead of a reset link. Anyone else see this as an issue or am I alone here?

Wordpress uses this format. It is nice way to securely deliver a new password. Sending passwords out in clear text has always vexed me, but one of those things that I haven't addressed yet. If someone has one already developed, I'd prefer not to reinvent the wheel in the future.
