Hello,

I have a question regarding the install of DNN 5 using DotNetNuke_05.00.00_Source_RC2.  I unzipped the product, opened it up using DotNetNuke_VS2008.sln, built it and everything is fine.  I set http://localhost/DotNetNuke_Cambrian/ as my startup project then click debug --> start without debugging.  The result:

Server Error in '/DotNetNuke_Cambrian' Application.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Source Error:

Line 870:            ' first call GetProviderPath - this insures that the Database is Initialised correctly

Line 871:            'and also generates the appropriate error message if it cannot be initialised correctly
Line 872:            strMessage = DataProvider.Instance().GetProviderPath()
Line 873:
Line 874:            ' get current database version from DB

Stack Trace:

[NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.]

   System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +68

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.3053; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.3053

I also tried bringing up VS2008 and open \DotNetNuke_05.00.00_Source_RC2\Website as a website rather then using the solution. This doesn’t work because all of the provider references get lost.

Does anyone have information on how to get a core environment setup for DNN 5?  It is also worth saying that I did get the install version working correctly and now want to take a look at the core.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bryan

please make sure you have a web.config, some versions (such as the upgrade) contain a release.config that needs to be renamed to web.config (this is a legacy behaviour from when we needed to ensure users did not overwrite web.config's during upgrade)
