After seaching Hotscripts.com for a portal system for my company, I came across this promising product. However, installing it has proven to be extremely difficult. At first I downloaded version 4 and tried to install it on IIS running on Windows Server 2003 and SQL server 2000. No luck. Once I go to "http://localhost/DotNetNuke" I'd get an "Access Denied" error. After countless hours of testng, I decided to try version 3 on an XP box running IIS 5 and SQL Server 2005 Express. Unfortunately, I am still getting an Access Denied error; albiet a more explainatory error.:

Server Error in '/DotNetNuke' Application.

Access to the path "c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v1.1.4322\Temporary ASP.NET Files\dotnetnuke\081e2c5e\5c049167" is denied.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path "c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v1.1.4322\Temporary ASP.NET Files\dotnetnuke\081e2c5e\5c049167" is denied.

ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.

To grant ASP.NET write access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.

At first I thought maybe I did not configure the access permissions correctly. Unfortunately, I have check and rechecked the permissions and still get this error. I have even gone to the extent of setting the permissions on all the files and folders to "Full Control" (only as a test) just to see if that would allow me to install. Unfortuantely, it still is returning this error. I am very excited about using this application as a proof of conept for my boss, but so far, it has proven to be unusable. What am I doing wrong?

Can anyone provide me with some guidance as to why I keep getting this error? I suspect it's somethig easy, but I'm at my wits end.

I am new to the world of DNN but will try to help.

It appears to be a permission issue, and would suggest that you look at the directory security on the above directory and see if the ASP.Net machine account has access to it.  At least that is what looks like it provides for mine in .Net 2.0.

For testing you could always grant everyone full access to that directory for temporary purposes and see if that fixes your error.  That will allow you to then start trouble shooting and seeing what the problem is.

I ran into the listed error (or something very close to it) when I ran out of available space.  I was on a hosted server and my disk storage quota was set fairly low. When the assemblies that are part of DNN were being moved to the cache I exceeded my quota which then threw this error.

Not sure if it will help you but thought I'd throw it out there.
