Yesterday I posted an announcement of a new set of modules; in fact, a totally new web application that I believe would be enormously helpful to President-elect Obama. And it was deleted without any explanation.

Good moderators don’t delete posts. It’s an extreme measure (although on some forums it seems to happen frequently). You might do so with inappropriate advertising but it would be better to edit the post, explaining why you have done so.

After all, what am I claiming?

That Yalas turn messy complex relationships into more tractable small-world networks, just as Laplace and Fourier Transforms turn difficult differential equations into easier algebraic equations.

President-elect Obama’s issue is that if he gets thousands of answers to his invitation to American people to share health care experience and ideas then eventually this becomes self-defeating. People will hesitate to reply in case they are repeating what has already been said (most are not going to read through 6,000 or more other answers). How does he make sense of all this himself?  A Yala solves this problem by leveraging the innate structures that link local dialogue to the national, even global, big picture.

There is more about this on my site and blog, and I am happy to answer questions.

DotNetNuke promotes itself as a web application platform, is it hard to believe that it could support a unique and powerful new application?

Moderator, if you don’t agree with this, please at least contact me and tell me what is going on. It is discourteous, apart from anything else. What is going on here?

I was the moderator that deleted your post yesterday as I felt it did not meet the forum guidelines, as it seemed to be an appeal for people with contact details for relevant people in the new US administration to contact you and not for anything dotnetnuke related i.e. you were looking for a contact to make a sale/get involved. This is not approriate for that forum. I also quickly clicked through onto your blog and it did not have any dotnetnuke related information, so i removed the post (the annoucements forum is intended as a low signal-to-noise forum and is more heaviliy moderated that the other forums)

When a post is deleted, an email is automatically sent to the original poster with the reason for the removal - in your case it was regarded as an offtopic post, i don't know why you didn't get this mail, please check any spam filters/junk mail folders in case your email reader moved it there.

This new post of yours actually has enough detail for me to see that you offer a dotnetnuke product for sale, hence why i'm leaving it in.

Please note, that moderators do not have the time to navigate through blogs/sites hunting for dotnetnuke content (nor do we have access to posters details to get email addresses ), if you want a post to be allowed in this forum, please ensure you detail your dotnetnuke related product/service otherwise we cannot be responsible for deleting posts in error.

Note: As per forum policy (detailed at bottom of forum Site Moderators have the final word on approving/removing a thread or post or comment.

Thank you Cathal,

Apology accepted.

I started writing this application back in the before-DotNet days of Classic ASP. The reason Microsoft sponsored IBuySpy, gave away Visual Web Developer Express, encouraged DotNetNuke and most recently rolled out BizSpark to 82 countries is to engage the Developer. All in the hope that one day someone is going to come up with the next killer app – like VisiCalc, blogging, social networking  – to pull through massive sales on their platform.

The problem with recognizing the next great killer app is that it’s not going to be about the tool, it’s about what you can do with it. Explaining your new app purely technically misses the point, as in:

“A blog has a reversed sort order, one that puts most recent posts first.”
“Yes, and…”
“Well, it’s more than this, it’s a ‘naked conversation’.”
“Really, so it’s self-indulgent verbal diarrhoea?”
“Not quite, then there is the blogosphere.”
“What, specialist search engines, is that all?”
 And so on.

My app aids the management of complex relationships. But since most people don’t know what that means, that is where I have to start explaining what it does. And that is why the blog is not full of DotNetNuke stuff – although the site is clear enough.

To give an example from the IT World, the outsourcing of many IT jobs to India has created a new task: that of managing a complex outsourcing deal – how do you manage remotely, what do you do if they aren’t performing, how do you change outsourcing partners, and so on?

Now here is a far more serious example. Many people are blaming the regulators for the global financial crisis, and looking to regulators to make sure that it never happens again. But if you watch the MIT Baseline Scenario class (here) you will see that part of the problem is that the US has 54 regulators (one for each State plus a few more for the US as a whole) who are trying to regulate banks that are not merely US in scope but global. This truly is a complex relationship and exactly what this approach can help make work.

I know DotNetNuke is Open Source, still most of the people in this eco-system are hoping to sell what they produce. I am not appealing to the DotNetNuke people for sales because they are unlikely to be customers, but for their support and ideas on connecting with people – namely the Obama transition team - for whom this application could be an enormous boon.

When my application takes off, it is only going to help everyone with DotNetNuke know-how. So can I now resubmit that original post? This is absolutely not a frivolous request.

And if anyone has any ideas, let me know.  I am open to all suggestions.

Kind regards

Geoffrey

PS: I checked my gmail spam folder. Your email is not there. But I have changed my profile to an email address with no filters.

you're welcome to post anything, I did think that this new post covered the relevant details of your product, so i'd prefer if you didn't post multiple messages with similar content. Also, please note the announcements forums guidelines @ http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/112/threadid/15001/scope/posts/Default.aspx - the key part there would be

"If you've posted once... please don't post again unless you've got a new version or a significant change in your offering.  These are intended to be announcements, and if they look too much like "advertisements" or fall into any of the other unacceptable areas we've identified, we do reserve the right to delete them (don't be offended, inquire if you're unsure)."

Finally, the announcements forum is intended for single announcements, not full conversations - if you want to post and discuss something other forums such as "chat about it" are probably more approriate.

OK Cathal. It's your show.

Kind regards

PS I didn't get email notification of your post even though I have ticked the box. So something is not working here.
