Given:

Hosting account:

DotNetNuke Version: 3.2.1
Data Provider: SqlDataProvider
.NET Framework: 1.1.4322.2407
ASP.NET Identity: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE

with 2 running portals.

Needed:

Transfer and insert them into my new DNN install on a new hoster:

DotNetNuke Version: 04.09.00
Data Provider: SqlDataProvider
.NET Framework: 2.0.50727.1433
ASP.NET Identity: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE
Host Name: 89309-server5
Permissions: ReflectionPermission, WebPermission, AspNetHostingPermission

Any easy way of doing this? Would a popular backup module be of any help?

Thanks for any ideas,
Peter

you should upgrade in steps, via DNN 4.0.3, 4.3.7, 4.4.1, 4.6.2 to 4.9.0. for all except the last upgrade you may follow this receipt: http://www.deutschnetnuke.de/tabid/186/Default.aspx

for upgrades from 4.6.2 and later, simple extract the files, the upgrade process will take care of web.config modifications.

As sebastian eluded to in his post, you cannot simply "transfer" the sites from the old installation to the new installation.

If you follow the steps listed by sebastian to upgrade, making sure to change the ASP.NET version to 2.0 on the first upgrade you should be able to get the existing site up to the most current version.  Then you can overwrite the site at the new location with that site.

NOTE: be sure to take full backups before you start!!!!!

i know what you mean, but i already have sites running on the new install, since there seems to be no magical solution i will have to transfer them manually )) would be nice to be able to move whole portals around sometime in the future
