Good morning to all DNN techies!

I have a scenario which i would like to get various inputs from power minds of DNN!

Lets talk about creating a company Intranet using DNN. This intranet is going to be used by employees(AD users) in five different locations(eg. US, UK, India, China, Malaysia). Also, customers(Internet users) should also get access(very limited 1 or 2 pages) to intranet to run certain reports. The Intranet needs to be created by having the following in mind:

1) Each and every location will have their own administrators in addition to Super Admins(who hav admin access to all locations)

2) Each and every location should have a different layout or color theme.

3) All employees (AD users) should be able to share files between them (like uploading files and mentioning which user can have download access) - irrespective of the geographical location.

By considering all these, which would be the best approach to develop the intranet?? Having a single portal? or having multiple portals(1 for each location) ??

or having a parent portal which provides dashboard of links to all 5 different locations which routes the user to 5 different child portals (1 for each location)?

Happy to receive various ideas.

Thanks in advance,

Saran

to share documents, all users need to share a portal or you need to use a 3rd party module, which eliminates the portal bounds. In this case an installation with multiple portals should suit the needs best.

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for your reply. So, if i go with having multiple portals,

I would create a parent portal which is merely a dashboard which provides links to several child portals (1 child portal for each location).

I have few questions.

1) How the authentication mechanism will work here? All users will get access to main(parent) portal, based on their roles we will display links to appropriate child portals.. they can click on the link to access the child portal. if they log out from child portal will they automatically be logged out from parent portal??  How we can make this work?

2) Also, as i mentioned earlier.. customers(internet users) also need to get access to all locations(child portals), so do we need to enable both AD authentication and DNN authentication? If so, how we can expose the website to outside world(for internet users) ??

Thanks,

Saran

Can any one shed some more light on this?

if all users shall have access to all sections, you should provide a single portal only and use security roles to control access. this will require each user to register and login once only.
