Well you guys can count me in with this error.   I am getting the same error on the second page of the install.   It is throwing the error as soon as I click the NEXT button on the first page of the install.   Trying to redo the installation generates a SITE UNAVAILABLE message, and I can never go any further.

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit.

All file permissions are set properly.    I have several different versions of DNN running 4.6.2, 4.7.0, 4.8.4, 4.9.1, and a couple of others.  This is the only one that is giving me any problems.

I have also tried to change the trust settings, no avail on that.

Full Error Message:

Well I logged the issue here:
http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=9099&PROJID=2

What version of .NET framework are you guys using?
Are you using Vista Service Pack 1?

Thoughts:

You might need to run Microsoft Update.

You might try removing/reinstalling DotNetFramework/upgrading to latest version. I heard report that SP1 can correct corrupt the .NET framework on your machine. It's a long shot though.

This is a tricky one.

I'm seeing the same error here.

Vista Ultimate plus Microsoft update up to date, plus SP1 installed.

Quite confused at present - will keep trying things... but suspect I will roll back to 4.9.0 soon.

I've tried now on a clean Server 2008 Virtual Machine with:

- .Net 3.5

- .Net 3.5 SP1

- Microsoft Chart Control (changes 3.5 SP1 slightly?)

- DotNetNuke 5 (web.config modified to run under 3.5)

And I'm seeing the same TargetInvocationExceptions - especially around the login control (I've also seen some v13wstat3 errors when I try to use a custom page for login and registration). I'm fishing in the dark a bit at present - I'm a bit out of touch with the DNN codebase - anyone got any ideas what I could try playing with to help debug the problem?

Is there any way to get hold of the latest source code for the WebControls as shipped with DNN5.0? The problem seems to be 100% reproducible at present and the call stack is listing it inside DotNetNuke.UI.WebControls.DNNMenu.LoadPostedJSON() but I can't debug this at present as I only seem to be able to find the 1.5.3 source for the WebControls - whereas 5.0 seems to ship with 2.0.337.

(Also please note that I am no longer on Vista - and that this problem is now in normal application use - not during the install wizard)
