1. There are lots of areas not fully documented. The menu is but one example. We are working on a site, similar in spirit to MSDN and CodeProject where the community can help maintain these documents. Right now there is no central repository that makes this easy. We hope that the new site will help move this in the right direction.
2. Solpart versus DNNMenu: Given that solpart is no longer under active development and hasn't been for more than 2 years, it would not be wise to continue using that menu. Since DNN never owned the code for that menu and Jon and Sol'n Partners did not have a desire to continue development of that menu, it really wasn't an option to keep it. The DNN Menu is a great menu that has many advantages over SolPart. Like many developers, Jon felt he learned a lot from building a menu system the first time, and used that knowledge to better architect DNNMenu from the beginning.
3. It seems that if you get any sufficiently large group of people together you will find some who do not get along. That is ok, as long as everyone understands to keep the public disagreements to a minimum. I certainly have had my share of disagreements, both public and private. Here's hoping that we all learn to do a better job in 2009 of being a bit more forgiving and learn to hit the "Cancel" button rather than the "Submit" button just a little more often.
I hope everyone had a merry Christmas and have a happy New Year. Looking forward to tackling more DotNetNuke challenges in the New Year, but for now I am just enjoying a little time off with the family.
