I would like to study the blog module as an example, but I can't find instructions for installing the source into VS2008.  I'd like to step through the code, set breakpoints, etc.  I have the DNN starter kit running in VS2008.  I just need to add the blog module and source.  Can you point me to instructions?

Thanks!

Hi Aldeng,

the current Blog module source is still .NET 1.1, and has to be opened under VS 2003 and compiled against DNN 3.x. You can however run the module upgrade wizard and upgrade to .NET 2.0. You will need to update also some deprecated method calls and you'll be able to compile using VS2008. At the moment, the same work is being done by the team to set up the development environment for version 04.xx.xx

Thanks Dario.

Sounds like the blog module won't be a good example for me if I'm starting with .NET 3.5 and DNN5.  I've seen Michael Washington's tutorials (if you read this, thanks Michael!) but I was looking for a full working source example of a large module to really sink my teeth into.  But maybe I can just look through the source to find what I need and not try to compile it.  Just steal its great ideas and best practices ;-)

Hi Alden,

I'm developing a small custom module (just for fun) using .NET 3.5 against DNN 05.00.00 and using the dynamically loaded controls pattern. It works fine as it works for the Blog module, so I think that having a look at the Blog module's source code would be anyway usefull for your job. If you need any help, or if you need the source code, just let me know.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa
