OK obvious point for those experiencing this issue, but have cache/cookies etc has been cleared out?
....and if you are using products with privacy features (such as cookie handling, blocking javascript) please disable it completely.... i.e. ZoneAlarm.

So I tested this on a real Win2000 machine, a VPC win 2000 and an XP VCP and I cannot reproduce...

You are not using one of these multi IE installs are you?

Just started looking at this.  Here is what I am observing.  When I go to a standard install of dnn in IE 6 without being logged in everything is fine.  When I log in, the top half of the page nothing works, including hovering over hyperlinks (showing pointer/highlighting).  Towards the bottom of the page, things work.  Anoter odd thing is that if I right-click on the top of the page I don't get a view source.  Choosing properties here shows that what is actually selected is a spacer.gif file.  Odd.   Finally, if I open up the Portals/_default/default.css file and remove the z-index: 1000; line from the ModuleTitle_SubMenu class entry all seems to work.

Is this the same behavior others are seeing???

Further investigation shows that the spacer comes from the iframe trick needed in IE6 to guarantee that the menu displays over "windowed controls" (dropdowns, flash, etc.)  So the menu will render an IFrame for IE6 only which explains the behavior. 

While the workaround I offer can help a lot of cases, it may not be sufficient to all.  The bug was introduced by the fixing of another bug with did not allow the menu to display over a windowed control the first time, but everytime after.  The fix causes the iframe to display early for IE6.  The problem is that it did not hide itself.  If you wish to track this bug you can by referring to this entry and this one.

Sorry for the late reply after my initial postings.  I'll try to answer all the questions that have come up:

I have tried this with both a fresh install of 5.0 and an upgrade over a 4.9 install.  Both had the problem.  This was tried on a Windows 2000 and Windows XP machine, both physical and virtual, neither had the "multiple IE" install package.  They were running "real" copies of IE6.

Caching, cookies had been cleared, IIS had been reset after install "just in case", nothing regarding privacy settings are a problem; this is an internal site (Trusted Intranet) but double-checked anyway and it was fine.

As Jon mentioned, the problem was not prevalent unless I was logged in.  In other words, as an anonymous user it was just fine but the moment I logged in then the problem occurred.  Also as Jon mentioned, everything towards the top half of the page was dead, then near the bottom things were magically working.

@Jon -- I'll have to try that in the default.css file, that is removing that line in the ModuleTitle_SubMenu class and seeing what happens.  I'll post back as soon as I look.
