I agree that replacing spaces with a minus-sign would be better SEO. See google Webmasters tools; they even recommend '-' above '_' . I tried with the regex function in the webconfig. but no success...

I have tried MSSQL script just to change TabNames:

update Tabs  set TabName = replace (TabName, ' ', '_') where ParentID<>7 and ParentID<>38

7 and 38 is host and admin menus in my dnn installation. So I have not changed it. But the urls are not dchanged. I am not sure if it is cache but I tried to clear cache and rebuild application in IIS with no effect. But if I open page properties and save it the urls are changing as well. For me is SEO needs are higher priority than symbols in menu.

Hi Yael,

I think that is similar to putting '-' in the menu. They are removed. What if you remove the -_ from the web.config ? Does your solution work then?

In the setting, we already have friendly url settings, with the  function add new rule. Can we add a rule to replace "   "(space)  by  " - "?

if yes, that surely will the best way.

Thanks

I have tried to install ifinity Url master and have experienced a lot of problems. Tried to uninstall it and it "ate" a whole bunch of web.config. So fortunetelly I have a backup of it.

So it would be usefull if DNN core url rewrite have a possibility to replace spaces. That's only feature I need

Hi Yael

I'm the author of that module : I'm sorry to hear your uninstall didn't work.  To answer your prior question :  a DNN 5 version is not available right now, this should become available during the next week.  You also need to follow the instructions for the uninstall or you will corrupt your installation, as you found out.  The instructions on the uninstall are located next to the module definitions link.  In short, you've got to disable the module before you remove it.

To answer the other suggestions in this thread : any manual hacking of the database records, pagenames, tab paths will cause more problems then they solve, that's why I wrote the module in the first place.  You can't introduce hyphens into the system in any other way apart from providing an alternative to the standard DNN Friendly Url provider.  Because the problem is not a rewriting one, it's a Url generating one.

If you've got any other questions I'm happy to answer them for you.  Also don't be shy and if you've got a problem with the Url Master module, post a comment on the forums at http://www.ifinity.com.au/Products/Support_Forums/  I can promise you'll be treated nicely.

regards

Bruce
