I have created DNN site using version 4.9.0 (source)
Now i am trying to deploy this on live server.

I am doing these steps but unable to deploy on live server

  1. Created virtual directory with same name as done on local.
  2. Uploaded all the files from local to live server, there is same directory structure as in local, and virtual directory pointed to "Website folder".
  3. Restored database backup on live database server, and in PortalAlias table added deomain name. (i.e.  MysiteTest.com)
  4. But when when i am browsing this site MysiteTest.com nothing happens
  5. Then i changed entry in  PortalAlias table  MysiteTest.com to  MysiteTest/Website.com then its working.

 I don't want to use  MysiteTest/Website.com URL .

Please provide any solution......

Don't place it in a virtual directopry if you don't want a directory name in your path.  Place it in the root of your site.

Now i moved all the contents from "Website" folder to root folder and deleted "Website" folder, And change entry in "PortalAlias" table from "MysiteTest/Website" to "MysiteTest" and browsed "MysiteTest"  Its working.

But i am confused is that correct approach to move all the contents from "Website" folder to root folder ????

Yes, it is.  It's not DNN, it's the nature of web servers.  By creating a folder, real or virtual, under the root, you introduce that folder into the path.  The URL has to match that path where the application is stored.  The only way to avoid that extra folder in the path is not to have the extra folder.

Moving all files and folders from "Website" folder to  root folder Will that affect the any functionality of DNN?
Will all the functionality will work perfectly ?
