Hi All, I do hope someone can help me. Heres what i'm trying to do: Get an Email verification on registration. Here's the problem: No Email is sent eventhough test emails works from host settings (these are probably not relayed though). I have checked the verify button. I also registered an account manualy and didn't get an email notification here either. Here's my setup: dnn 4.9.0 on .net framework 3.5 using VWD 2008 express on a laptop using outlook express with a routed wireless broadband connection to smpt.ntlworld.com in the UK. My guess is that it could be something to do with setting up my ntl account for relaying or maybe adding the port no which i've tried along with lots of other ideas but i'm now at a blind alley.  Here's the error log etc: Thank you in advance for any help and guidance. If I can't resolve this I might have to drop DNN because this is a real show stopper for my project.

It's not a DotNetNuke problem.  Rather, the SMTP server isn't able to sent the email:

InnerException: Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: you are not allowed to send mail to <john.ayres700@ntlworld.com>

Often, this is because the target mail server will not accept the connection.  You'll need to configure things so that this doesn't happen.  This could be a refusal to relay or something else that prevents your SMTP server from communicating with others.

Hi Joe, thanks very much for your reply. Could you please give me some guidance as to how i would go about configuring things or which area to look in, ie should i be looking into outlook express or contacting my isp (virgin) or both. Is there any documentation I could be pointed at or has anybody had this problem before and resolved it. Thank you again.

John

I have the same problem.   It used to work then just stopped.   Can't figure out why.   In general I have found DNN to be very buggy.  And I'm not using any 3rd party modules or skins.   I've decided I have to find another portal framework to create my website under.   DNN is not ready for primetime.

Gregory,

if you do not set up your mail server properly, you cannot blame DotNetNuke for it!
