Personally your best bet it to restore to the backups.

Otherwise, be 100% sure that all code files copied successfully.

And, if I (in an incredibly stupid move) didn't make a backup before updating? Except for a set of skins I purchased and uploaded, there is just content on the site. Can I just wipe the files, replace them with a new copy of 5.0  and then point the new install to the database holding the content?

I am not a programmer; slightly technical, but this is way over my head (which is why I sought out DNN as it was perfect for my skillset until today)

I re-uploaded the files one more time and that did the trick (that makes 4 total uploads today...)

Sorry to waste your time! :)
