I'm trying to launch a Dot Net Nuke website hosted at Go Daddy. Go Daddy's default setup is to place the site in a dotnetnuke subdirectory (www.mydomain.com/dotnetnuke) and then do a redirect from the domain name to the subdirectory. Is there a way around this? I'd prefer to have the site in the root directory instead of a subdirectory but Go Daddy tells me this is not possible with the way they have things setup.  Any help fixing this problem would be appreciated.

I think you might be able to just edit a setting in dotnetnuke and get what you want.  I'm no expert, but try editing this:

I think editing it did what you are trying to do for me.

add

key="HostHeader" value="Subdirectory"

It "can" be done, but it is a very tricky thing to accomplish as you have to cirumvent GoDaddy policies to move it and get the default behavior.

I believe GreenFlash (Ismet) has a tutorial linked here somewhere that discusses it, I'll try to find it.

Hey Guys,

I happen to see this post (by accident) as well as this link within the same search results on Google.

Hope it helps

That tutorial is just what I am looking for but it seems to be a bit outdated, it was written in 2005 :-( When I go to my GoDaddy control panel its completely different to what is listed in the tutorial? I'm using Domain Manager version 4.2 and Hosting Control Centre version 2.8.7.

Does anyone have a newer up to date tutorial like this as its very well written? If not could someone explain how to do step 1 below with the new GoDaddy Hosting Control Centre version 2.8.7?

Cheers,

Mark

Step 1: Get your virtual directory setup

  • Login to your GoDaddy.com account
  • From the top menu, click My Account
  • On the icon that says "Hosting & Email", click "Web Hosting & Databases"
  • You should see a list of your hosted sites, for the site in question, click "Settings"
  • On the right, click "Custom Directory Permissions"
  • In the box, pick a name, this will be the location of your DNN site (eg www.mysite/portal, portal being the name you put in the box now). Click EACH checkbox. Write down the folder name you use here (eg "portal"), we'll need this later.
  • Save your settings
  • Now lets go back to the page where it lists your sites (look at step 3 above)
  • Click "Databases"
  • Under "Create New Database", Create a MS SQL database. For username/password I suggest using the same as your GoDaddy login, or just write it down, we'll need this later.
  • Its going to take a while for the new folder to process and be setup, same with the database.
  • The last part here is that after the database has been created and setup, we need both the server and database name. Going back to where your sites are (again look at step 3), click on Databases, and you should see a new record showing your new database. From here we need the server name, this should be the leftmost column and should look something like: whsql-v02.prod.mesa1.secureserver.net (write this down).
  • On this same line, under DB Name, is the database name, should look something like: DB_10421 (write this down)
