 I have the following configuration

One Parent Portal-> 7 Child Portals

why I did this… because I needed different look and feel for child portals as the menu of parent portal is Horizontal and the Childs portals have Vertical and the pages of each portal is specific to them so I created child portals. Each child portal has its own skin.. as for as the functionality mentioned above is concerned I have achieved it.

but now I want that when some one perform search it should search all the portals. currently it only searches the current portal as each child portal has it own search button,(each child portal has its own skin). so I want the search to be central and also the member ship also to be central. if some one signs up for parent  portal she/he should have access to child portals as well..

I hope you got my point... actually I have just created the child portals just for look and feel... the whole site is basically a single unit..

any information on the issues will be highly appreciated

thanks in advance

Dotnetnuke doesn't share information between portals normally.  You are going to need to leaverage a couple of modules to achieve what you want to do.   First you are going to need to get a module that allows you to share information across portals.  DNNMasters.com has one called User Sharing Extreme which will let you do this.

Secondly, you are going to need to get a third party module that will index all of your DNN sites.  There are a number of these out there.  The one I have used several times is made by Venexus.
