Hi Gurus

I use a .lic file extension on my license file. Seems to make sense. The Host has to go to Host Settings>AdvancedSettings>OtherSettings to add lic to the list of available file extensions. Then Admin adds the .lic file to the Portal Root via File Manager. It worked up to 4.9.1. Now under 5.0, while it looks as though the .lic file extension is added, Admin gets the message:

The File C:\DotNetNuke\DevEnv500\Portals\0\YalaLicense.lic Is A Restricted File Type. Valid File Types Include ( *. swf, *.jpg, *.jpeg, *.jpe, *.gif, *.bmp, *.png, *.doc, *.xls, *.ppt, *.pdf, *.txt, *.xml, *.xsl, *.css, *.zip ). Please Contact Your Hosting Provider If You Need To Upload A File Type Which Is Not Supported.

And returning to the Host Settings lic is no longer there.

Is this a bug or a feature? Should I log it?

Kind regards

Geoffrey

This is a new feature of 5.0... Previously DNN did not check the host settings allowed file types list when installing a module.   Now it does check, so that a module can not upload a file that is not allowed.  Its a security issue, stops malicious .exe files or etc from being run on your webserver.

The .lic extension is however a safe format, and should have been added to the default allowed types list :)  You can of course add it yourself under host settings.

JK.

Hi JK

I think we have a misunderstanding. My problem is that 5.0 Host Settings says that it has allowed .lic files (after I have added .lic to the end of the list) BUT I still get the error message that they are disallowed when I then try to upload a .lic file via File Manager! Try it.

Kind regards

Geoffrey

Works for me.

Check Host Settings again (goto another page and then come back)

Once you've added the value does it persist or disappear?

If it disappears check that your Host email address (Host Settings/Configuration/Host Details) is correct, then try it again.

The form validation error message is not immediately visible when you click Update if anything is malformed, this should be fixed for 5.0.1.

If this does not work try deleteing .lic, click update, then adding .lic again.

Hi Alex

I have found the problem and, of course, it is in the detals (where the devil lurks!).

I am testing 5.0 on a Vista machine and following Mitchell Sellars installation instructions which has you skipping the installation wizard by entering

http://localhost/[your site]/install/install.aspx?mode=install

in the URL line.

This creates a site with the Host Email address support@localhost but NOT support@localhost.com. To add the .lic extension you need to scroll way down the screen to Other Settings and when you click Update at the bottom you don't see that the Email has kicked out a validation error. So the lic extension never gets added. Part of the confusion coming because clicking Update doesn't take you to another page.

Thank you for your trouble in answering. Maybe it is a point that should be noted - or tell Mitchell to change his instructions to note the need to correct the email address. I don't know. Something like that because if it is possible to make  a dumb mistake, people will. As I have just shown!

Kind regards

Geoffrey
