We recently installed DNN 5.0.0 on a server but run into an issue where not all of the files were being unzipped by the native windows zip utility.

When we tried the install on our local machine using 7-zip the install worked without a hitch.

We installed 7-zip on the server, extracted the files to the exact same location overwriting all previous files and there were more files in the directly than on the first attempt.

Hit the web site and immediately the site launched and began the install wizard.

Just thought it might be worth noting that some of these installation woes may be caused by incomplete unzipping of the install package.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks Josh, that's very odd, i've never heard a report of the windows zip not working correctly - i never use it as it's so slow (i'm a winrar guy)

Yes Windows ZIP stinks, I use WinRAR as well. I've had reports that some UNZIP applications (can't remember which) won't copy certain files across as they are deemed a security risk (I assume that's a setting somewhere).

Its not Winzips fault, you have to Unblock the file first.

Philip - we aren't talking about WinZIP I think which is a reasonable product, it's Windows ZIP (native), i.e. compressed folders, at least the one with XP. Try unzipping a large file with lots of files and watch it burn :).

It's really only good for day to day activities like document workflow.

Cheers :)
