Ok then set the folder permissions to full - eg.. read / write / control

Then upload the files to directory - Do not try to install using a folder .. eg.. /dnn - install in the root directory.

Set your connection strings.. I am not sure what they are for sql 2005? is that what you are using? but if you are using SQL 2000 you need to comment out the 2005 connnection string and use the other one. You will find this in the release.config file.

There should be more help in the documentation.. I won't be here after this as I'm going to bed, but the things that will stop it from working include

Incorrect connection string parameters - more particular if you host with a remote db - eg.. one using an IP address and this could get fiddly.

Make sure you have the permission set correctly.

There is help in the documentation to do this and it has been relatively successful.

Hope this works

I cannot get into the actuall root "/" folder but I have access to a folder under root.  Will this still work.  I can change all permission associated with this folder and child folders.

1and1 does not support ASP 2.0 so I don't believe you can install 4.0.2.  You need to download 3.2.2 and install it.  There are several posts here about getting it to work.  I recommend the ones from pink budda they are pretty complete.
