FYI, my DNN site is at godaddy as well, and I found the redirector code through their help. You just open up notepad and paste the code, change your site address, then name the file index.html and use godaddy's regular file upload to post it to the root of the site.

You need to add a redirector. It's the only way I know how anyway. Just google html redirector the code is easy to edit. Put this at the root of your website, i.e. your default website virtual directory, or the folder inetpub for IIS.

Hi Alex,

I am having this same problem...  I'm not sure what you mean by "root".  When I installed DNN on my server, I used the "Default Web Site" and create the Virtual Directory "dnn_site".  Now, instead of going to the root site http://www.hbtoblog.com to access my site, I have to add the "dnn_site" (http://www.hbtoblog.com/dnn_site).

By root I mean the top folder of your FTP site.
Make sure you virtual directory is an application in IIS.
Check out host headers in IIS (google it) and make sure DNN portal alias is set up correctly.

You may/may not have to set up a seperate IP address in IIS so your domain can point accordingly.

Hi Alex, I really appreciate you taking the time, however, I am still running into the same problem, and I don't know if I have the thing configured properly or not...  I understand host headers, but not when it comes to virtual directories.  To be quite honest, I'm a little confused as to why no one can give me an example of a working IIS 6.0 DotNetNuke installation on the web (a www address) given a dedicated server setup...  I guess nobody does that.

Ok, enough whining.  Here is what I have:

http://216.15.255.226/dnn_site works.

Here is a screenshot of the IIS configuration for this installation of DNN:

Here is a screen shot of the properties for the Virtual Directory:

and here is the host header information:

Does this help fix my problem at all?

Thanks.

Hi Alex,

Ok, after days of working on this, it clicked after your post and a few others I read.  I am going to attempt to explain this so that others without the IIS knowledge will not have to spend the time that I just did to get it to work...

This only applies to a dedicated server install of DotNetNuke....  I don't have a hosted solution.

Depending on which online tutorial you use to install a "remote" version of DotNetNuke, it may instruct you to create a "Virtual Directory" named "dotnetnuke" or "dnn_site".  This is the guide I used:

http://www.bestwebsites.co.nz/dotnetnuke/easy-dotnetnuke-installation-guide/

This guide directs you to create a Virtual Directory.  IF YOU INTEND ON USING DNN ON THE WEB FOR WWW. DOMAINS, DO NOT DO THIS!  It will only waste days of your life!

Instead, create a NEW WEBSITE in IIS and follow the same instructions (default.aspx, etc).  Then you won't need the /dotnetnuke at the end :)

Yay!  Thanks for everyone's help.

Adam
