I work in a clinical enviornment and used DNN to create an intranet site where our psych techs, RNs and MDs could all have a place for an open forum. I also implemented document management to keep the consents and other forms in a centralized place. I took the users out of another SQL app and ported them in (with the exception of the passwords as the encryption wasnt the same)

To make a long story short the boss was so impressed he asked me if I could convert the web site over to DNN and create portals for all our affiliates... (blank stare). And also change what I have done so each location is a portal and share some of the forums and content between the sites. I know a lot of what he is asking will be easy especially creating the portals and allowing some users to change the content of the sites (this is really easy) as far as sharing the document manager and some of (but not all) of the forums I am a little baffled. Will DNN allow me to do all this? From what I have seen with DNN I have been extremely impressed. Especially with the community that gathers around it. It is by far been the best experience I have had with open source apps.

The Forum module does have a setting that lets you share forums across portals, I have never done it before though.  As far as the document tracking it depends what document tracking module you are using.  I don't think the one that comes with DNN is cross portal accessible, but I think there might be some free ones out there that are.   I at least know that some let you set the path to the documents storage but I am not sure it is coming off the portalid or the desktop module location.  Check out Cathal's website for alternate document management module.  http://www.cathal.co.uk/

You might find the module you need on http://www.snowcovered.com if you do not find it on the above site.
