If a third party login module is not designed as a real DNN authentication provider, then DNN will not recognise it as a login module.

Third party login modules that experience these issues need to do some tweaking.

Alex - I don't think its the modules that need to do any tweaking... The code specifically states / doesn't allow the module to even appear as the login module unless its named "Account Login" directly hard coded. So the only tweaks we could make would be to name our module 'Account Login'. I received a response from Shaun today that he is going to talk with Charles and get back with me. The previous work around was to simply add an 'Account Login' module to the page and set the visibility to only be viewable to admins (this was for 5.0, didn't need this in 4.x) but in 5.1 I guess the module has to be there and visible. Dynamic Login is designed to work with the real DNN authentication provider.

For example, say you took an account copy of the DNN Account Login module and simply made a few tweaks (or none!) to it. If you installed the module with the name 'My Login Module' it wouldn't be able to work. So I don't think its about tweaks to the module itself.

Hi guys... I just logged this within Gemini... ID# 10367.

http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=10367&PROJID=23

If there are any known work arounds or anything I would love to know.. I am also eager to upgrade our site to 5.1 and can't until we know it can support custom login modules.

I would be happy to know if there are any work arounds. Basically it would work if we completely uninstalled the standard login module and renamed ours to 'Account Login' which really isn't a good option because many users would want to use both. So, there is nothing that we can change in the code that I know of.

I think it would be nice if it was a feature that could be defined within the module definitions, maybe something we could add within the business controller / install or a box that the user could check that would be 'This module represents a login component'. This way you would avoid useres accidentallysetting the login page and not being able to sign in (the reason why this wa changed in DNN to begin with), and it would still provide a way for clients to use 3rd party or custom modules for the login.

This is a major issue as it affects all 3rd party modules.

We have used open web studio / listx to build custom login modules for 50+ sites & cannot upgrade any of them to 5.1. We also use chad's login module & another 3rd party module on quite a few sites as well.

Please look into another way of doing this without breaking thousands of websites to save a few people from making the mistake of choosing the wrong login page in the admin settings.

Can't a user just go to the below url if they pointed to an incorrect login page anyway?

Adam, no that wouldn't work. If a site set's custom login to a page without a login module, it doesn't matter what path you use, theres no UI to login with.

However, I feel that this issue possibly deserves a higher priority. Whilst the fix is in place to ensure the inability to login can't happen, i think that this usecase is more serious - i'll discuss this with Charles and see what we can do for 5.1.1
