Hi folks.

I've been installing the v5 Starter kit on XP Pro with MSSQL2005 Dev Edition and VWDE2008.  After a few attempts, it all goes smoothly (apart from confusion as to whether to convert the site to .NET 3.5 - I didn't).  The site runs nicely from within VWDE using it's instance of the ASP.NET server on a random port.

However, I cannot open the site directly through IIS (with IE7), despite having apparently made the virtual directory.  I assume that the site needs to be published or exported or something, but the Build menu item has no Publish item.  Also, I can't find any mention of this in the docs.

Any thoughts?

I can now answer my own post, having installed various versions over the past 18 hours.  I tripped over the answer by mistake when installing the Install kit for v4.  In the instructions for that it says that when using a separate MSSQL database, you must give dbo permissions to the ASPNET user account.  "That's obvious" you may say - and so it is, in hindsight.  However, the instructions for the Starter kit doesn't say it and if you're a newbie following that, you're going to be disappointed.

Another thing which emerged, more by experiment, is that you must make sure the permissions on the site root directory are correct.  I guessed this one myself and again, it's not mentioned in the Starter kit instructions.

I hope the above may be of some use to other newbies.
