Hey Everyone,

Sorry to keep asking beginner questions like where to find things, but I have searched a couple different sites for a custom search module.

I need users to be able to search my db by city, state and or job title. I found Usearch that looked promising made by ecktwo but his site has been out for some time and he hasn't responded to email.

Does anyone know where I can find something to suit my needs or know of something in development?

Thanks

This is slighty different to what you want, but it may give you ideas. With SmartSocial you can drill down by Location, or you can search by different fields, or you could find people on a map (this is the core maps mod). It's free too, which is always nice ;)

If you can handle a small bit of programming you can use the free SQLView module to do this.  In order to perform a search you'd drop input boxes within a Text/HTML module, have a dynamically-created link (JavaScript) that appended the input text as querystrings and point that link to a "results" page with SQLView on it.  You'd use SQLView's support for querystring parameters to pass the parameters to a custom stored procedure that performed the actual search.  SQLView restricts text with DELETE, INSERT, etc, but you'll still want to be carefulthat your SP code is not too open-ended.

If all that sounds a bit beyond your comfort level then a for-pay module is probably a better match for your needs.  For simple modules under $50 (a real bargain) you can consider the following:

There are other, more interesting options in the $50-and-under range (forms builders that support user parameters, report generators, etc) but those will be more complex solutions.  There are other for-pay SQL modules as well but most I've seen for under $50 are skimpy and/or of dubious quality.

Also...
eck two is still around and kicking....just last week eck two answered a SQL-related post with a great solution.

The modules I mentioned are just a few suggestions -- I'm sure others can add tons more.

Good luck!

Thank you Mamlin!

I think my biggest problem at the moment is that I am not sure exactly what to look for, hence me looking for a search module instead of the sql module.

Also, seeing as I am really new to building sites I don't know a whole lot about coding. That will be my next venture.

Thanks again,

Chuck
