Hi,

I work for government and i want to run DOTNETNUKE for our department's website. I contacted out techonology service centre and they responded with the following concerning if we can run this cms software.  Do you have any input for them as their response is way over my head.  Thanks in advance!

Nicholle

Tech response:

I can not comment on the useability of DNN as we do not have alot of first hand experience with it here. If you were to choose a seperate CMS other then the current SharePoint 2003 or SharePoint 2007 solutions then you would need to consider the application may require a seperate host other then the shared enviornment due to the applications requirements, setups, and configurations. For an application like DNN this could be a hosted front end server in the VMware server farm and the back end SQL could still be in the shared SQL farm. Please remember that this would require a Windows license and a SQL connection license. The prices fro these can be gathered from your Business Relations Manager within the TSC. Your departmental IS staff may have some more experience with CMS applications and may be a valuable source for you to explore.

Nicholle,

From what I can gather the general response from "Tech" is "We really don't know anything about DNN, and it may require it's own server. If it does, the cost of running the application will be increased."

I would let them know that there is no strict requirement to host DNN on it's own server - you can certainly use "shared hosting" (i.e. running other applications on the same server). I would suggest starting on a shared server and monitoring performance - because while there is no strict requirement, you still don't want to put "too much" on one server.

Hope that helps,

Ian
