I have several personal blogs on a site. The RSS feeds are fine, but what I want to do is allow new users to subscribe to a blog via email. Every time a new entry in put in or on a daily schedule, they receive and email.

Is there a way to set that up?

David-
You may prefer using a free third party email notification feature from FeedBurner (recently purchased by Google) to email updates based on your RSS feed content.  Why?  Because then you have the ability to apply this feature to ANY module generating RSS, not just the BLOG module.  This is a BIG DEAL if you ever want to move to a different BLOG module (or even a different blogging web platform altogether) and keep your current feed subscribers with no changes to your feed URL.

DNN BLOG module RSS fed through FeedBurner looks like this:  http://feeds2.feedburner.com/es/recent

If you like, you can have the feed URL with your dmoain name instead of FeedBurner's domain (also a free feature).

Check this info page on the email feature:  http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/publishers/fbemail

Here are a few features related to the email notification:

  • Opt-in email confirmation
  • Notification (to you) when someone unsubscribes
  • Email only sent when content is updated (as you would expect)
  • Email is sent with whatever return address YOU specify
  • You choose time of day emails are sent
  • You may customize email's subject line, included logo, fonts

The primary reason to use a service like FeedBurner is to gain additional stat info -- you can see how many people are subscribed to and/or clicking through your RSS feed.  Another feature is the ability to monetize your feed by allowing ads.  All FeedBurner features are free -- check it out.

Hi,

email subscription has also been added to the future wish list of the Blog module.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Nice!  I've not mentioned it before, but it's great to see such obvious attention and quick responses to relevant forum postings from DNN project team members.  Over the past year that has certainly included anything related to the BLOG module.

Thanks, Dario!

I just added my blogs to Feedburner and am having an issue with the images not showing up.

Is there a fix for this or is it a common problem that will need to be updated in the future?

Thanks a bunch,
