Hello,

The 4.0.2 Install Package has source code and project files included in the package.  This is contrary to what is described in the Installation Guide.  Actually, the installation guide said to install the Installation Package for 4.0.2 follow the steps in 3.2.2.  I downloaded the package for 3.2.2 and found that this indeed has no source code.  I am guessing I can copy all of the 4.0.2 files to a remote server and things would run fine.  I am not a fan of having source code on a production box.  I am also guessing that if this bothers me enough I could simply remove the offending files and everything would work fine.  Are there any gotchas to doing this?  Or does anyone know if a source free Install Package is expected?

Thanks in advance,

- Doug

Hi All,

I thought I would update this with what I determined on my own.  The .vb files appear to be required.  When I removed them before pushing to a remote client, the install failed.  I did this about a month ago so I can't give you the error messages I encountered.  I ended up compiling the source and pushing the results to my remote server and it worked fine.  However, I wanted to test a push of the install package files, including the .vb files.  I had not had time until today and I successfully did so.  I haven't spent much time with VS 2005 yet.  I work with VS 2003, which has the option to copy only the necessary files to a specified destination.  I figured VS 2005 would follow suit.  At this point I have not found a VS 2005 counterpart to copy only necessary files.  This leads me to wonder if this is even an option.  Let me add one caveat.  When I installed DNN today it was 4.0.3, not 4.0.2 as described in my initial post.

Thanks anyhow.  I hope this post will help someone else.

- Doug
