I've noted lately that some of the DNN sites that i build have a issue when i'm logged in as host.

When logged in, i notice that the 'admin' and 'host' menus that attach to the end of the menu are wrapped a line below the rest of the menu, despite the fact the menu still has plenty of room left for more pages. This wrapping causes the menu to jump when I hover on any Menu Item that has sub-level pages. This is a pain for me because now i have to use the Admin>>Pages route to access pages that need content/fixes.

I can live with a jumping menu, but would rather not pass this site to my client with that issue.

That sounds like an issue with the skin that you're using to me. I.E. the space allocated for the menu isn't set wide enough to accept all the menu items so it wraps.

the site i'm working on is in development,

http://fsgassociates.com.dnnmax.com/Home/tabid/77/Default.aspx

the skin package is called FSG-Horiz950px.

I had this nearly perfect on my local installation of DNN, but once i uploaded my skin/container packages it went sideways on me.

The second problem i'm having is attempting to place a background image on the top-level navigation. My first thought was to use CSS to bring the image in.

i had it on .main_dnnmenu_rootitem & .main_dnnmenu_itemhover. The desired end result would be that root level pages would have a rounded folder tab image that inverts when rolled over.
